Do I need a visa to travel to Egypt?

The short answer is yes; most foreign nationals, with the exception of 10 countries, need to obtain a visa before traveling to Egypt. For most travelers, you can arrange a visa either upon arrival at Cairo International Airport or online through the Egyptian government’s official e-visa portal. This includes citizens from Australia, New Zealand, the EU, and the USA. If you are not eligible for an online visa, you will need to apply through your nearest Egyptian embassy or consulate.

A single-entry visa is valid for three months from the date of issue and allows for one month of travel in Egypt. However, if you are from a country that does not require a visa before travel, such as Bahrain, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, or Lebanon, you can stay in Egypt for up to three months.

*Note: As of September 3rd, Canadian citizens can no longer obtain a visa on arrival and must secure an e-visa before traveling.
